Fig leaves are rich in potassium and have reduced sodium levels, so they are a suitable protection against hypertension. Potassium helps regulate blood pressure.
Fig leaves contain pectin, which breaks down “bad” cholesterol and transports them to the excretory system to be expelled from the body. Fig leaf tincture improves the lipid profile and increases good cholesterol (HDL). They also help to reduce the content of fats that are responsible for causing heart attacks – triglycerides, thus providing additional protection for the heart and blood vessels. Phenols, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids contained in fig leaves help to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and thrombosis. They help to avoid blockage or narrowing of the coronary arteries, normalize metabolism, ease digestion and are useful for inflammation of the urinary system. They are an anti-allergic agent and reduce the production of histamine. For this reason, it is recommended for allergic asthma.
The antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and soothing effect of the leaves helps to reduce elevated body temperature and fever.
